What’s the Best Time of Year to Train in Phuket?
The short answer: November through February.
The short answer: November through February. This is Phuket’s dry season, with lower humidity, less rain, and daytime temperatures that are hot but manageable for two-a-day training. If you’ve never trained in tropical heat before, this window gives you the gentlest introduction while you’re also adapting to a new gym, new coaches, and new training style.
That doesn’t mean the rest of the year is off the table. March through May is hotter and more humid, which is brutal for outdoor running but fine for gym-based strength work, pad sessions, and indoor conditioning — and prices and crowds are both lower since it’s off-peak for tourism. June through October is the rainy season, with afternoon downpours that are usually short and predictable rather than constant; many fighters and HYROX athletes actually prefer this window because the rain cools things down and most training happens indoors or under cover anyway.
What matters more than the calendar is your specific training goal. If you’re doing heavy outdoor running volume for a HYROX block, dry season conditions will let you hit your paces with less heat penalty. If you’re mostly doing pad work, strength training, and erg sessions indoors, the time of year matters far less, and you might get better gym availability and pricing by avoiding peak season entirely.
Whatever month you go, plan for a heat and humidity adaptation period of at least a week, regardless of season — even dry-season Phuket is hotter and more humid than most people’s home climate, and pushing full intensity on day one is how people end up cutting trips short with heat exhaustion or injury.
